a little about me

So, where to start? Well, my name is Kayla Holcomb. I am the wife of 3 years to Nicholas Holcomb, who is an amazing human, father, craftsman, and friend. We have been together for a total of almost 8 years and have been blessed with 2 beautiful girls. I was born in San Diego, Ca, but have lived in a total of around 12 US states. I've been a professional photographer for roughly 4 years. I'm new resident of North Carolina, moving from our home of 5 years in Portland, Maine. Nic and I met 9 years ago in Cocoa Beach, FL while I was visiting between my moves from Alaska to Maui, HI. You'll notice from a lot of my photos, the ocean is a big part of my life. For majority of my 20's I worked in boat tourism from Alaska doing Whale and Glacier tours, snorkel guide in Maui, to sailing historic schooners in Maine. My love for the ocean or any body of water is a huge part of who I am. I love being outdoors, especially exploring new places with my husband and girls.

Moving inland to Charlotte, NC has been a huge transformation for me as there is no ocean nearby (other than 3 hours away along the coast), but I am excited to explore more mountains and all the fun and exciting things the city has to offer. We moved here when I was 8 months pregnant and during the height of the pandemic. Meanwhile, we also purchased our first home that we've been renovating over the past 2 years. I know, I'm a glutton for punishment.

Since our big move and the things "getting back to normal" I'm excited to pick my camera back up and start using my creativity to capture this amazing city and the people in it.
